own personal memoir, told in a warm, humorous conversational style
tracing my path from a small Southern town during the 40s and early
50s to the New York fashion industry to the mid-60s and beyond.
Nobody has yet written about the still unfinished story of Blacks in
the New York Fashion World, beginning with the sudden appearance of
young designers in the mid 60s. And no one has reflected on the
relationship between not having money available to start a business
and the old segregated life before the Civil Rights Revolution.
I will also take you on a rollercoaster ride with a backstage view
of life in the fast track through the most difficult times of
discovering myself and being unemployed; not being able to find a
design position in the fashion industry after years of success with
my design company and finally landing in the travel industry as a
writer and television/radio personality in the 90s.
In 1970, I was the darling of the fashion industry. I had a fairy
tale wedding with one of the models at the end of one of my fashion
shows. My marriage was short-lived but was important to me. Now,
looking back, I have learned from my mistakes and I put a real
effort into making each day better.
I will share inspirational anecdotes from 6 continents around the
world. My story is for all people who are curious about the fashion
and media worlds of TV and radio, which are unique in both
opportunities and hardships. I have been a fashion designer, a
cabaret singer, an office temp, a teacher, a tour operator and a
show producer. I am also a motivational speaker and the host and
producer of
GlobeTrotter TV.
